TOBACCO, ALCOHOL, AND DRUG USE POLICY
Cambridge Minor Baseball Association (CMBA) prides itself on the promotion of a healthy, active lifestyle. Our association follows the by-laws of the City of Cambridge, Baseball Ontario Constitution, Province of Ontario legislation, and the highly regarded abundance of research that has been done with respect to the use of tobacco products, alcohol, and drugs.
POLICY
- Players and Coaches in uniform must refrain from using tobacco, cannabis, and vaping products at all times. Player or coach jersey and hat must be removed prior to smoking.
- There shall be no chewing tobacco while in uniform
- Players must never be under the influence of alcohol or cannabis at any time, at any team function or event, or any association event
- Coaches should refrain from using alcohol while acting in the capacity as coach or will be acting in the capacity of coach in the same day
- For example – if attending a team lunch in between tournament games, a coach should refrain from consuming alcohol, but if a coach is attending a team event where they are no longer responsible for the players (ie – parents are present and responsible) then they may responsibly consume alcohol
- If coaches are attending a public place while on team or association business (example – restaurant/hotel), they must remove their jersey before having a drink
- As per the Smoke-Free Ontario Act which came into effect on January 1, 2015 – Smoking and vaping are no longer allowed at any publicly owned outdoor sporting area, spectator area, sporting area, or public area within 20 meters (65.6 feet) or any point of the edge of the sporting or spectator area; and CMBA follows this legislation
- Coaches, Managers, Trainer, etc. are required to refrain from the use of alcohol or cannabis prior to a practice or game with their respective team
- Any of use of illegal drugs will result in a player or coach being suspended from CMBA until the CMBA Board of Directors determines an appropriate course of action. Please refer to the discipline policy for further details on this procedure.
- Executive members, volunteers, coaches, managers, and players are subject to sanction, discipline, and removal with the above noted policies are abused
